Napa County is filled with charm, but is in an awkward position when it comes to funding improvements to cycling infrastructure or education and awareness programs. Population-wise, we are the smallest of the 9 Bay Area counties, yet we are the home of the 3rd most visited place in California, Napa Valley. This means that for years, Napa County has received infrastructure investments inconsistent with the true number of users.
The net effect is that Napa County residents do not have the safe cycling infrastructure we should have, and too many of the tens of thousands of cyclists who visit here leave disappointed that our bicycle network does not meet the standards set by many other destinations. Napa Bike is speaking up at Federal, State, and local levels to bring this problem to light. We are working at every level to secure funding for the improvements that will make more residents feel comfortable with riding instead of driving, and will make more visitors want to return, which benefits every community in many ways.
When we do our advocacy work, one of the first questions is about paid membership. Paid membership, in the minds of elected officials and staff, is the measure of the organization. That’s why it is important for you to renew, to ask your cycling friends to join, and volunteer to help us grow.
If you have not joined, renewed or extended your membership in the last 30 days, please do so now. It is really important. And thanks to a special sponsorship from the Alliance for Biking and Walking, you may be the winner of a really sweet Breezer commuter bike . . . just by joining, renewing or extending your membership between now and April 29! Just click here and make it happen.
