Group touts bike-friendliness for businesses (3/7/10) Napa County is becoming all business when it comes to bicycling. A new campaign by the Napa County Bicycle Coalition is asking local employers to help the agency make the valley more bike-friendly. Sixteen businesses have come aboard since the campaign started in December, according to Wendy Hilberman, executive director of the countywide bike coalition that began in 2005 as a grassroots effort. They are offering financial and promotional support for biking to work and improving biking infrastructure in the valley.

Calistoga wins Bronze bike award (11/29/09) Dear Editor, The City of Calistoga was recently honored as a Bronze Level Bicycle-Friendly City by the League of American Bicyclists. This program provides incentives and recognition to cities like Calistoga who actively support bicycling in their communities. This prestigious honor was awarded to only three cities in the State of California for 2009: Calistoga, Sonoma and Riverside.

Elementary School Kids Learn to Ride with Safety on Their Minds (11/24/09) After donning helmets on Monday, dozens of elementary school students in American Canyon hopped on their bikes for a ride around the neighborhood - with an emphasis on safety. "All right guys, line up," said Casey Wedding, a bike instructor with Napa County Office of Education's Safe Route to Schools program. "No passing!"

Napa County invited to go car-free for a day (9/21/09) Last year, Napa County on Sept. 22, embraced its first celebration of International Car Free Day with more than 135 Napa County residents pledging to go car-free for the day. A movement that began over a decade ago engages people from around the world to get together in the streets and neighborhoods to consider the impact of their transportation choices and how cleaner forms of transportation can benefit the environment, health and overall quality of life.

Take A Ride And Share The Road (7/1/09) Ramblin’ On, by the Napa Nomad – Eco-excursions in the Napa Valley. Summer’s here and I’ve dusted off my trusty “beach cruiser” bicycle. Not that we’re anywhere near the beach, but that’s the name of the style; meaning it’s a comfy ride without gears, meant to cruise along on mostly flat roads. Fortunately for me, most of the roads around the Napa Valley are flat, and it’s easy to take a ride off the more congested beaten paths.

Ride on Brothers and Sisters: (6/16/09) Dear editor, The Napa County Bicycle Coalition would like to thank everyone who came out and supported and participated in Bike to Work Day 2009. This event could not have taken place without the dedicated volunteers, sponsors, friends and participants who made it such a success. This year we had a total of 1,013 participants who stopped by at one of the eight Energizer Stations, including 14 schools who participated.

Bike to Work Day: (5/15/09) Thursday was Bike to Work day, and we hope that the one-day celebration of pedal-pushing may someday look quaint as more and more Napans make bicycling an everyday activity.

Justin Medaris Voted Bicycle Commuter of the Year: (5/14/09) Local teacher erves as model for annual car-free day. Almost every morning for the past nine years, Justin Medaris rode his bike to Stonebridge School where he is a teacher. For him, bicycle riding isn't a hobby, but a form of transportation.

Car Free Day 2008: (9/19/08) Car Free Day promotes other modes of transportation, carpooling. Napa County is joining an international movement on Monday to ditch their cars. This first-ever grassroots campaign in Napa is spearheaded by the Napa County Bicycle Coalition and its sponsors, which urge people to use alternative modes of transportation and cut their use and dependency on the automobile.
