On Tuesday, the Napa County Board of Supervisors heard an update on change made last year to the county’s Special Events Ordinance.  The rules govern permit requirements for event of 50 or more people on county-owned roads, although many events are also required to get a permit from Caltrans, local jurisdictions, and contract with agencies like CHP or ambulance providers as well. Hearing Scheduled for Cycling Event Rule Changes Last year, County officials adopted a new set of rules for special events like the Tour of Napa Valley, Cycle for Sight, and the Napa Valley Marathon. While banning relay-type events upvalley, the County also set limits on the number of events per month, limited road closures, and banned events on specific dates, including the Safeway PGA Tour, NASCAR, and Auction weekends. We’ve been working closely with staff from the City of Napa, and the City’s Bicycle & Trails Advisory Committee, to improve the design and safety of the proposed roundabouts on California Blvd and 1st Street just west of downtown. Earlier this year, Napa County Public Works finished a project to install rumble dots along Silverado Trail, between Trancas Street in Napa, and Yountville Cross Road.  This project is part of an ongoing effort by the County to improve safety for cyclists and drivers along one of the most ridden stretches of road in the valley.
