Big Win in St. Helena!
At their September 8 meeting, St. Helena City Council voted from a menu of three options to install Class II bike lanes on both sides of Spring Street from West Sylvaner Avenue to Valley View Street.
We are so excited that the City is moving forward with installing bike lanes on Spring Street. Class II bike lanes on Spring Street have been included in City and County plans for nearly a decade and have been discussed back-and-forth with a City subcommittee for over a year.
The installation of Class II bike lanes will improve bicyclists’ sense of safety on Spring Street, which currently has no bicycle facilities. We know that when roads feel safer, more people get out of the cars and onto their bikes. This will especially benefit families with children who live in the area, as it makes this key corridor that connects to downtown and local schools more accessible for all to bike.
We want to express our gratitude to all the folks who called and wrote to City Council in favor of bike lanes – your support creates real change! We would also like to thank the St. Helena City Councilmembers who voted to approve the Class II bike lanes. This addition to Spring Street brings biking in St. Helena one step closer to being safe and accessible for all riders.
