“May is Bike Month”
Postponed to September
In mid-March, we the difficult decision to cancel or postpone all of our events through the end of May 2020, including biking workshops, Kidical Mass rides, and our annual Napa County Bike to Work & School Day. This wasn’t a decision we made lightly, or one that we made alone. But after consulting with our partners and public health experts, we’re confident it was the right decision.
But here’s the good news: Bike Month will still happen, just a few months later than usual!
In consultation with Bicycle Coalitions across the Bay Area, we’ve selected Thursday, September 24th as the new date for Bike to Work Day, and the month of September will take the place of our annual Bike Month.
Activities during May 2020
Bike Month isn’t just about Bike to Work Day – it’s a month (or more) of celebration, education, and activities to get our community excited and remind us of the simple joy of riding a bike.
For the duration of the Shelter at Home order, we can’t conduct any in-person events. But that doesn’t mean you can’t get outside and ride by yourself or with your family, while practicing social distancing. And you can share photos and stories about your ride on social media, to help encourage and inspire others to get out and ride a bike!
During the month of May, we’ll be hosting “virtual” Bike Month activities, including:
- Instagram Photo Contest – post photos of your ride, follow @NapaBike, and tag #BikeNapa for a chance to win a $500 Saris SuperClamp EX2 bike rack, panniers from Ortlieb, and other great prizes.
- Kids Scavenger Hunt – Get the kiddos out for some exercise and fresh air, while completing our bike-themed Scavenger Hunt. Snap a pic of each item you find, and post it online to win a brand-new bike for your kids, and gift certificates to bike shops, and more.
